The Big 1-0

This month, Bryce turns 10 and so this past weekend we had a party to celebrate the exciting event.
Bryce really loves the Percy Jackson and the Olympians books so we went for a Percy Jackson themed birthday party.
First, we blindfolded the boys and gave them a foam sword lined with lipstick. We twirled them around and then let them have a shot at cutting off Medusa's head. The lipstick left a red mark to let us know how close each boy came to decapitating our Gorgon (for all you Mom's out there, this was a HUGE hit...who knew lipstick could be fun for 10 year old boys).
(P.S. No making fun of my horribly ugly Medusa...let's just pretend I am a great artist and that she is that ugly on purpose).
After a rousing game of capture the flag, spiced up with water balloons, we smashed our monster covered pinata. Unbeknownst to Bryce, Josh and I had filled the pinata with empty tin cans instead of sweets because one character from the book, Grover, the satyr, eats tin cans as his favorite treat. It was a different kind of "can"dy (hardy har har). We did have real treat bags on the side so there wasn't too much whining.
Finally, we headed to the back yard for our water relay race. The boys were broken into two teams, the Poseidon team and the Zeus team. They had to race around the yard jumping on stuff and throwing things and getting wet...all those things that ten year old boys do best.
After the relay race, we let them play in the pool and on the water slide for the rest of the afternoon (my parents bought a bounce house and water slide for the grand kids and were sweet enough to let us borrow them both for this...thanks Mom and Dad).
It was a really fun party, in fact, we had a hard time getting the kids to go home. The final child left an hour after our scheduled end time, but Bryce felt spoiled and had lots of fun so mission accomplished. We love our oldest boy and are so glad he is part of our family.
Happy Birthday, Texas...You are awesome!!!

  2. Wow, it's hard to imagine that Bryce is already 10. It won't be long before he is in high school and there will be girls and sports and lots of really "fun" stuff for mom and dad to deal with.

I do agree with Manda; you throw great parties. Wish you had been my mom when I was growing up!:-)
